Body Transformation

Dr. Jay used his MetabAcheck measurements in 2007 to both kick start his 12 week body transformation and also confirm that as he was ONLY LOSING FAT and either maintaining or gaining muscle.
On day 1 of his transformation (3/30/07) Dr. Jay measured his metabolism. His starting weight was 208lbs. Having recently had right shoulder surgery in 2006 secondary to a rotator cuff tear, he knew that his priority during the transformation should not be scale weight loss, but instead gaining the muscle back that he may have lost due to atrophy from his shoulder injury as well as losing as much pure fat as possible. His resting metabolic rate at that time was 2578 cal/day and his comparison to normal was +29%. He used his measured rmr to quickly and accurately set his nutritional targets specifically for fat loss and muscle gain at the same time (Yes, contrary to what you may hear on the internet, both CAN be done simultaneously IF you know your EXACT caloric requirements.)

After 4 weeks Dr. Jay had lost 5lbs. on the scale and had lost about 2 inches off his waist. He decided to retest his metabolism in order to both confirm his initial progress and more importantly see if he needed to reset his nutritional targets secondary to any change in his metabolism. His test confirmed that his metabolism had increased by 172 calories/day and his comparison to normal had increased from +29 to +40! Knowing that he definitely added new muscle tissue (increased rmr), he therefore knew not only that the 5lbs scale weight he had lost had to be pure fat but that he also must have lost an additional amount of fat equal to the new muscle tissue he added! Hence why he lost 2 inches off his waist despite only a 5lb scale loss. He was excited, motivated, and also now able to accurately adjust his nutrition based on his new metabolism for continued success.

After an additional 8 weeks Dr. Jay had lost an additional 8lbs on the scale and had lost an additional 3.5 inches off his waist! He decided to retest his metabolism once again in order to both confirm his final progress and most importantly get a final metabolism measurement to use to set his maintenance nutrition. His test confirmed that his metabolism had increased an additional 72 calories/day since week 4 which gave him a 12 week total increase of 244 calories/day! His comparison to normal had now increased from +29 to +45! His test again confirmed that he definitely added new muscle tissue (increased rmr) since week 4, and he therefore knew not only that the 13lbs scale weight he had lost had to be pure fat but that he also must have lost an additional amount of fat equal to the total new muscle tissue he added over the 12 week period! Most importantly, he had his exact new rmr measurement which he could use to create a maintenance nutrition plan to ensure that he would not gain his weight back.
12 Weeks: 13 lb. scale loss, approximately 25lb. total fat loss, 5.5 inches lost off waist, metabolism raised by 244 calories per day…MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!
